The Golden Bath of the Man'yo Age

♨️Ikaho's celebrated Kogane no Yu, served Kakenagashi straight from the source
🌕Gekko no Yu and Orizuru no Yu alternate between men and women, so you can try both
💧No water is added, only gentle warming, and the baths are drained and refilled daily

Private Family Baths

🛁Three private family baths (Ichi, Ni and San) are free for guests to reserve in advance
🌿Two paid private baths, Sawarabi and Matsukaze, are also available
🔑Collect the key at the front desk and the bath is yours alone

The West Wing and Its Taisho Romance

🏯Built in 1920 entirely of hinoki, the west wing's 14 rooms are each designed differently
🚪These rooms are preserved as they were, so toilets and washbasins are shared in the corridor, though air conditioning is fitted
📐Rooms run 8 to 14 tatami plus an anteroom and tokonoma, a century of cypress warmth in the grain

Comfort in the East Wing and Annex

🛋️The east wing keeps its Taisho bones but was renovated in 2010, with seven Japanese-Western rooms and one Western room, all with private facilities
🏢The Tokiwaen annex, rebuilt in reinforced concrete in 1994, has full plumbing and climate control
👶Families with small children may prefer the annex's Japanese rooms or Western twins to the wooden main house

Mountain Kaiseki from Gunma

🍲Certified as a Gunma local-produce inn, serving mountain kaiseki built on regional ingredients
🍶The limited Joshu Tokusen Kaiseki is served course by course in the ground-floor dining room
🥢Standard plans are served in your room or a private dining room, a landlocked prefecture's take on kaiseki

📜Founded as a hatago in the Genroku era, around 1710 to 1720
🖋️Tokutomi Soho's handwritten sign and other Meiji-to-Showa works hang throughout the house
🌲A four-story all-hinoki main building, a rarity today, holds the warmth of its timber

Beside the Ishidangai Steps

🚉About 25 minutes by Kan-etsu Kotsu bus from JR Shibukawa Station, then three minutes on foot from the Ikaho Onsen stop
🚌By highway bus from Tokyo or Shinjuku, the Joshu Yumeguri-go stops closest at Ikaho Ishidangai
🅿️There is no parking at the inn itself; use the dedicated lot and the shuttle will bring you over

The Golden Bath has flowed here since the age of the Man'yoshu, and the all-hinoki main house still carries its Taisho-era romance. At Yokotekan, founded in the Genroku years, mountain kaiseki from Gunma and private baths fill the hours in an inn that has never stopped being itself.
