A 250-year-old shoya house

An Edo-period village headman's (shoya) residence kept close to its original form rather than remodeled. One group has the whole house, for up to 15 guests.

Irori hearth and menpa breakfast

Meals can be enjoyed around the irori hearth, and a breakfast packed in a traditional Ikawa menpa lunchbox is available on reservation. On Friday and Saturday nights the local-produce 'Okochi Gozen' dinner can be requested.

Engawa facing mountains and garden

Wide engawa verandas on the east and south sides look out over the mountains and garden, which changes with the seasons, from plum and wisteria in spring to chestnut picking and autumn leaves.

Garden BBQ and seminar hall

Guests can barbecue in the garden (6,600 yen extra), and an approx. 70 m² seminar building on the grounds suits workshops and group retreats.

Getting there

About 1 hour by Shizutetsu Justline bus from JR Shizuoka Station to the Hirano stop, then a 3-minute walk (about 40 minutes by taxi)

Best for

Families and groups of friends who want to live like old rural Japan rather than seek modern comforts (bath and toilet are outside the main house)
