HIGHLIGHTS

What makes it special

A hot spring lodge on the Minochi River in Hiroshima's quiet mountain hinterland

Riverside open-air bath

Yuki Onsen, said to have been discovered about 1,500 years ago, flows straight from the source with no added water (heated only). The open-air bath looks out over the clear Minochi River and the changing seasons.

Regular kagura shows

Hiroshima city kagura troupes perform this traditional dance-drama at the lodge on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month.

Getting there: Free guest shuttle from JR Hiroshima Station North Exit (weekdays, reservation required, about 65 min), or Hiroden bus from JR Itsukaichi Station South Exit (about 76 min)
Best for: Families and groups wanting a riverside hot spring and local folk performing arts away from the city
