A school reborn

The former Nishio Elementary School, closed in March 2018, was renovated into an auberge while keeping its original silhouette and materials. Contemporary art is placed throughout the building.

Cuisine by Chef Shota Itoi

Chef Shota Itoi, the youngest-ever Grand Prix winner (at 26) of the RED U-35 culinary competition, cooks with local ingredients. Stays include dinner and breakfast.

Rooms made from classrooms

Each Junior Suite is a whole converted classroom, its blackboard turned into a whiteboard. The 77 m² Suite has a glass-walled bathtub in the former library. There are 12 rooms in total.

Views of the Kanagaso quarry

Windows look out over the schoolyard and the Kanagaso stone quarry, whose 'Nikka stone' was used in the National Diet Building. The quarry became part of a Japan Heritage designation in 2016.
