In 1867, Saigo and Okubo of Satsuma met Kido and Ito of Choshu here to discuss the Satsuma-Choshu Alliance. The meeting site survives in the garden, and a Meiji Restoration archive room is on the ground floor.

Ishin no Yu family bath

This tub dates from 1860 and is said to have been used by Sakamoto Ryoma and other Restoration activists during their secret meetings. It is used privately and needs no reservation.

300-year-old strolling garden

The strolling Japanese garden, a registered national monument, is open for walks from 7:00 to 22:00. The two-story wooden sukiya-style main building from the Taisho era looks out over it.

Distinctive large baths

Baths include Kura no Yu in a relocated storehouse, Iwa no Yu built entirely of rock, and a bath finished in hinoki cypress. The water is a soft alkaline simple spring.
