A brewer's old family home

The hotel occupies the restored former residence of Nara Toyosawa Shuzo, a sake brewery founded in 1868, with just eight rooms. High ceilings, exposed beams, tokonoma alcoves and carved transoms give each room its own character.

Counter dining with sake

The old earthen-floored entrance hall is now a 12-seat chef's counter restaurant serving Japanese-French courses built on Nara produce such as Yamato vegetables and Yamato pork, paired with sake sent directly from the Toyosawa brewery.

Pine-and-crane transom

The Premier room keeps an engawa veranda facing the inner passage and a transom carved with pine and cranes, and has a hinoki cypress bath.

Sake-lees baths

Rooms offer a sake-lees (sakekasu) bath. Hotel guests can also book a tour of the Nara Toyosawa Shuzo brewery in advance.
